The Giles Family Story
This blogspot was created to help a local Cypress, TX family. The Giles Family has recently been hit with a devestating diagnosis. Larry Giles, (husband, father & grandfather) was recently diagnosed with Basil Cell Carcinoma skin cancer, which has severely damaged his right shoulder. He is under the care of Dr. Janice N. Cormier, MD at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center(re: letter page).
On August 23, 2010, Larry will have surgery to reconstruct his shoulder, however, after the surgery he may not have full have use of his right arm/shoulder. This is a devestating injury for anyone, but even more for the Giles family, since Larry's trade is construction and cabinet building. Larry has been unable to work for the past month and with the upcoming surgery, it may be several months before he could try to return to work.
In addition, due to a preexisting minor medical condition they were previously unable to find affordable insurance and are uninsured at this time. While they have been able to receive assistance from the hospital, there are still mounting medical bills that they are having to pay. With Larry currently unable to use his arm and the upcoming surgery, everything they have saved over many years is quickly being depleted.
They are proud and hard working people and it is hard to ask for help, but they feel that there is not another option at this time.
If you have the ability to help, here are some ways:
1) Attend the benefit BBQ hosted by friends and family $7.00 per plate...a great bargain for dinner!
2) Donate items for the live auction, silent auction or raffle.
3) Donate directly to the Larry Giles Donation Fund via:
